AI training and capability building

Real-world AI adoption, grounded in 25 years in HR and L&D.

Advice and training are only as effective as the operational experience behind them. I'm an AI consultant with 25 years' experience in HR and L&D, most of it spent building, scaling and delivering the sector's technology, so my AI training programmes bypass vendor hype to deliver practical skills, safe operational standards and sustainable internal capability.

From workplace learning to AI adoption

I'm Jamie Thomson, and I've spent 25 years in HR and L&D, holding senior roles at EdApp (now part of SafetyCulture), Degreed, GP Strategies, Capita and Babcock. That experience spans the authoring end, the platform end and the delivery end of the market, through the shift from classroom-replacement e-learning to mobile microlearning, and now to practical AI integration.

Across those roles, the work reached global organisations including Coca-Cola, Airbus, BMW, Hilton, Yum!, Bank of America and Plan International. Those were engagements delivered while employed by the companies named above, not direct clients of QuikA Consulting, and the distinction matters: what carries over is a deep, structural understanding of how skills are acquired, retained and scaled inside complex organisations.

It is also the background behind my standing seat on The HR World's AI and Technology expert panel, which keeps my perspective on AI capability sharp, critical and current.

What I help you build

My AI training programmes span the full spectrum of organisational maturity, from immediate individual productivity gains to long-term, self-sustaining capability and continuous improvement.

01

Hands-on AI foundations (the one-day workshop)

Who it is for: operations teams, managers, sole traders and functional leads.

What it delivers: a practical, one-day immersion in three pillars: tools, safe operation and workplace optimisation. Participants map their repetitive "time-drain" tasks, master real-world prompt frameworks, learn the essential data privacy and model safety rules, and leave with working workflows ready to deploy.

02

Executive and leadership AI briefings

Who it is for: board members, C-suite executives, and HR and L&D leadership.

What it delivers: high-level strategic clarity on AI adoption. I demystify the tech stack, separate genuine efficiency drivers from expensive vendor wrappers, establish governance frameworks, and align leadership on realistic, risk-managed AI roadmaps.

03

Sustainable AI champions and internal capability programmes

Who it is for: designated internal AI super-users, process improvement leads and department champions.

What it delivers: train-the-trainer programmes and structured academies that embed ongoing AI capability inside your business. I equip your internal team to identify operational bottlenecks, design custom prompts, conduct task audits and drive continuous improvement without reliance on external consultants.

04

Bespoke and sector-specific training workflows

Who it is for: teams with highly specialised compliance, security or operational requirements.

What it delivers: customised learning sessions built directly around your existing tech stack, whether that is Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Workspace, a specialised CRM or an enterprise LMS. I build training scenarios using your company's actual workflows, brand guidelines and operational guardrails.

Why does that background change the training?

Most AI training falls into one of two traps:

  • Theoretical hype: delivered by tech enthusiasts who showcase impressive party tricks, but leave teams with no idea how to safely apply AI to their actual workload tomorrow morning.
  • Generic vendor tutorials: delivered by software providers showing ideal best-case demos that crumble when applied to your real-world data, security parameters and messy internal processes.

I've spent much of my career inside the architecture of workplace learning, so I approach AI training with a focus on human learning science and operational reality:

  • How do you train staff so the skills actually stick after the workshop ends?
  • What are the explicit data privacy boundaries staff must follow to protect company IP?
  • How do you embed human-in-the-loop verification so efficiency never compromises quality or compliance?
  • How do you measure actual hours saved and return on investment across a department?

Training is not successful when people are impressed by AI. It is successful when your staff predictably save time every week while operating securely.

The HR World panel

I am an AI and Technology Expert Panellist for The HR World, a standing obligation to analyse the market critically and articulate defensible, reality-based perspectives in public.

What feeds directly back into client training is rigorous filtering:

  • Which AI tools are genuinely transformational for workplace productivity?
  • Which feature updates are light wrappers over software you already pay for?
  • What does realistic, safe adoption look like compared to a vendor pitch deck?

How the service works

My training services are straightforward and pragmatic: no generic off-the-shelf lectures, no fluff and no bloated rate card. Engagements run from single-day immersive workshops to multi-week capability programmes, and the way I scope and run every engagement is set out on the How We Work page. Behind every session is what 25 years in HR and L&D have taught me: technical instinct, learning design expertise and absolute independence.
